One other thing I will be working on this year is a group study of the book Making Handmade Books by Alisa Golden with the yahoo group Artists of the Round Table. So far the books we have made are super simple (like the kind you learned in elementary school) folded books, but super fun to make. Especially if you have a theme in mind.

Emily Falconbridge has started up a new journal with prompts of "remember when". I'm super excited about this! I did 52Q along with her in 2009 and loved it. These are the two I've done so far:

This is the journal I am using. I bought this journal at Michael's 70% off - I think it came to like 3$. I removed the craft paper that was inside, cut out the spine and added 26 sheets of my own mixed papers for the 52 weeks of 2012? Not sure if there will be 52 prompts, but I'll be sure to fill in my own if needed. I am going to alter the cover in some way, but keep the angel and I am still not sure how I am going to bind it once it is full, but the twine is growing on me. I'm sure I'll add something more as the year goes on.

A year in the life of an art journal - 2012 - Word

A few years back I started doing the prompts with a group of artist for Year in the life of an art journal, and I think I did a few in 2010 but never finished. 2011 I really fizzled out because they were using songs as prompts. I didn't really know the songs and the ones I did know I didn't care for. Yes I am pretty fussy when it comes to music. :) But that is okay. Most people are not crazy about my music and I am totally fine with it!

2011 was also sort of a hard year for me. I was mourning the loss of 2 of my cats; Fozzy Bear and Puddin Pop. My mom was in and out of the hospital (and still is, but I'm getting better with that), and my job situation was sort of up in the air. It really just flew by and I wasn't too motivated to do much.

The older you get the more you see in life and things can start weighing you down hard. 2012 I know is going to be better! It already is and we are only one month into. 11 more to go, and I am going to make the best of it. I chose Serenity because I know things are going to happen. Its inevitable. You cannot stop it, but you can't let it stop you from living life. So this year I am going to do what makes me happy and have a little peace of mind.

December Daily

For a few years now I have been making Christmas journals for the month of December to help me get into the mood for the Holidays. I haven't really shared for the last couple years, but I might just do that this year. I made this journal with 2 sheets of 22x30 hot press watercolor paper. I laid both sheets out and just filled them both with acrylics in reds and greens along with glitter and glimmer sprays. After they dried I ripped them up and stitched them together with a pamphlet stitch. Following this video by Teesha Moore.

I went a little crazy with the glitter and flower on the cover. I may end up ripping the green flower off and replacing it with something a little smaller, but I'll see how it holds up with all the handling this month. If its still there on the 31st I might just keep it. :)

Happy Anniversary my Love

Tomorrow is Marty and my two year wedding anniversary. TWO years! It seems like we were just planning it all out last month. I know its not that long, but time just seems to go by so fast. We went to Ocean Prime for our celebration dinner and it was fantastic. They gave us a complimentary dessert and it was so touching. I really can't believe its already been 2 years, and I'm just so happy to have met my soul mate. :)

It seems like its been ages since I posted anything. I have been super busy though; working, playing in my journals and just living life!

Lately I have been buying scrapbook papers because they are just so beautiful and I don't really even scrapbook! Well, not in the traditional sense. Technically I think of my journals as scrapbooks though. Just not as pretty and organized as scrapbooks. :) Anyway, I made this journal using lots of scrapbook papers, mixed with some watercolor paper, Yupo and Braille pages. I love to paint over the scrapbook pages and add more layers to them. The original images on the scrapbook paper are sometimes visible adding a nice texture to my pages. You can't really see the them in these pictures, but since I just bound this book they are still really stiff and have a mind of their own on where they want to lay when I fan the book.

I think I bought the book at the salvation army - they put lots of books in a bag and then sell them for a couple bucks. Very good deal. :)

The spine on the original book was only about 1/4 inch thick so I cut a 1" piece of mat board for the spine and used pretty electric blue Duct Tape to attach it and decorated that with some snowflake packing tape. I will add beads to the tails of the binding once the book is filled.

Journal spilling weeks 4 & 5

Weeks 4 & 5 (through the yahoo group Artists of the Round Table workshop) using the book Journal Spilling by Diana Trout. We were to journal spill and then create the page using carved stamps and house hold items as stamps. I made the journal lines with a sewing wheel and carved the tree, house and large flower last night. Carving stamps is so addictive once you start. I think next time I get a 50% for Michael's I might have to buy another slab of Speedball Speedy Carve.

For week 4 we did an ink technique from the book which was very messy, but lots of fun. We also did stitching (hand or machine … or ‘faux’ stitch) with vellum or transparency to obscure the page (or part of the page).

Journal Spilling Workshop.

This is some my work (through the yahoo group Artists of the Round Table workshop) using the book Journal Spilling by Diana Trout.

So far this workshop has been fun and is getting me working and thinking a bit different than how I normally do when it comes to my art journals. Right now we are reading about inner critics which I don't really think I have a problem with when it comes to a 'pretty' page. I am happy with ugly and pretty alike. I never rip ugly pages out or stress about them looking like others art. (Or at least I don't think so at this very minute) It's not like I am selling anything I am doing, right?

My inner critic really just bugs me with details like:

"You don't have kids, what is going to happen to all this when you are gone? All those things you "think" you are recycling - guess where they will eventually end up? Yes, in the garbage."

"Why do you do this, isn't it just a waste of time? Don't you have anything more productive you could be doing?"

"Why do you have to have art in your journal, if you want to keep a record of what you are doing why not just write in a blank empty book?"

"Seriously, what is the point of all this, the benefit?"

Art on a snowy day

I can't believe all the snow we have right now! We haven't had snow like this since I was a little girl. I wish I could use it as an excuse to call into work, but I'm just not that sort of person. So I'm sort of hoping it is so slow they are going to call and tell me not to come to work. :D

I did a page in my Strathmore journal! The more I use this journal the more I am loving it.

I also took some pictures of Blue Moon! It's hard to get a good picture of him when his eyes are open because he is just so curious and always moving about. Snowcone is still so unhappy about him being here, but in a few days they'll be chasing each other and having some kitty fun.

Meet Blue Moon. Isn't he gorgeous??

He is a Russian Blue mix, and After grieving the loss of Fozzy Bear and Puddin Pop, we decided it was time to expand our fur family again and found this beautiful boy at Cat Tail Acres Rescue, through Pet Finder. He is pretty scared right now, but he is super sweet so far and playful. >^..^<

A kindhearted vet tech spotted me outside , cold and hungry. she brought me in to the vets office and asked if she could keep me there till she found me a home. the vet said "no" so she called Cat Tail Kitties for some help! i am so glad to be inside where its warm and i have plenty of food to eat. i am so beautiful and lovable. i have beautiful gray fur that is super soft! I purr all the time and love warm laps. i rub all over my foster mom for some lovin. i am one of those cats that will rub on your feet till you pay me some attention!

Strathmore journals - make your own!

On my journey with the Strathmore Workshops I became a little obsessed about these journals because I love the size of them and I just love trying out new paper and journals. I started out with the mixed media journal because I've never worked on this type of paper and wanted to see if it was anything special (140lb hot press wc paper is still my fav). I found out through the Strathmore web page that Michaels' was going to start carrying them. I like this because I like to actually see (Feel) what I am going to buy before I buy it. I found them but they were too small so I left empty handed, however I really loved the feel of the Bristol Board. Sooo... I got home and checked my stash of paper and found that I had a Strathmore Bristol Board pad that I had never touched!

So I made my own. :) It's a bit smaller than the size I already own, but that is ok. It doesn't have a cover, which is ok too because it will never leave my house and will stay in good shape. I'm not too picky. I could have gave it one, but I'm out of mat board at the moment.

The stitch pattern was inspired by Valentines Day. :)

Strathmore final week for Workshop 1

I finished up Strathmore Workshop 1! The last week was to embelish your page with paint pens. I wasn't really too inspired on exactly what I was going to embellish, so I did just a little bit. I'm happy with the end results and may add more doodles.

Strathmore workshop week 3

I am having a great Monday. Marty is hanging out downstairs with me playing Battle for Middle-Earth. Snowcone is sleeping in the guest room. She has a new sleeping spot under blankets or pillows. She is so cute she just burrows herself under there. I've yet to see her do it, but I can always tell she is there. ;)

I am LOVING the last couple of lessons. I have had these pastel sticks for years and hardly ever touched them. I don't know how often I will use them, but I will have to put them to use more now. I think I lost my light sorce somewhere with all the blending, but it is something I need to play with more to really learn. I haven't really used any shading techniques since high school art class.

I went a little crazy with this one and thought my negative space was too colorful and out of control, so I added a light dry brush of white acrylic over top in the spaces around the white circles. I'm much happier with the results.

Strathmore Visual Journal Workshop

I finally dove into week 1 of the Strathmore workshop (which is FREE!!!) and is being taught by Pam Carriker. I wasn't too crazy about making copies of my own artwork because to me it is wasting paper and ink in my printer. I would rather have used something out of a magazine or just drawn something new. I know I could have done both of these, but when I do a workshop I have this thing where I have to follow all the rules laid out. ;) I LOVE Pam's artwork and I was so excited that she was doing this workshop because I thought she might have taught us some of her drawing techniques. :D I'm not giving up yet though because there are 2 more weeks worth of videos and pdfs that I have not seen yet. I'll probably work on that tomorrow.

I still love my handmade journals best, but I am really liking my Strathmore journal too. I used lots of gel medium on these pages and they really flattened out nice after they dried 100%.

Fozzy's footprint

This was such a nice surprise. Marty picked up Fozzy's ashes today from the vet and look what they made us! This makes me so happy that I have this little print to remember him with. I am not sure where I am going to put it just yet because I'm so afraid one of us will break it. We are both so clumsy. :)

Well, it took me a couple weeks longer than I thought, but December was such a horrible month for me between my Mom in the hospital and having a sick Fozzy Bear to worry about. I finished my 52 List mini art journal for the flickr group 52 Lists for 2010 More mini art journalling . Thank you very much to Sherri for coming up with all the prompts - I know this probably wasn't easy.

My journal was done on ATC sized pages made mostly from cereal boxes and other household cardboard pieces. I hear lots of people say they like to work on this size because it is smaller and to them less challenging, but this was a huge challenge for me. I love my large pages! Next time though I am going to try a bigger journal for these 52 prompts.

Good bye my big boy

It's like de ja vu.... It feels like I just did a post like this a month and a half ago? I'll tell you Fate is a B@#$%.

About a week and a half about ago I noticed my Fozzy Bear wasn't eating or drinking, so we took him to the vet on December 31st. He's been at the Oakland Veterinary Emergency Critical Care Center ever since. Their first thought was he was riddled with pancreatic cancer, but said it might be fatty liver and if it was fatty liver that is something we might be able to bring him back from. They did a biopsy and it was inconclusive so we scheduled another ultrasound. I won't go into detail here, but tonight he took a turn for the worse and we had to let him go. He will be missed sooo much! I still can't believe how much this hurts. It feels like my heart has been ripped out and I now I have a hole where it used to be.

I love you Fozzy buddy and hope to see you again some day. There will never be another kitty with your gentleness and quirkiness. I will never forget you. :)

I finally started week 2 after having such a horrible week. I loved doing this spread. I always enjoy doing photo transfers, but just never really do them too much. I never seem to have ink in my printer and when I do I always think I am going to waste the ink on printing out silly things. LOL - I've had more than one tube of paint harden on me for fear of wasting it and just not using it.

For this spread I ended up stamping my wishes on paper and cutting them out instead of printing them from my computer. I'm having a hard time using gel medium over anything I print as it smears the ink - even if I let it dry overnight. It needs more doodles, but I'll add that later. The book is sort of long, so my scanner didn't get the entire right page. The very last wish is "All the love in the world".

I had to say goodbye to my cat Puddin Pop this morning. He was pretty lethargic last night and was even more so this morning along with labored breathing, so we took him to the vet. He was having severe heart failure and was only a year and a half old. Marty and me took him into our home a year ago this month. I never really knew he was in my heart and how much I loved him until this most surreal day. I cant describe our grief, and how much this little man will be missed.

I finished up today! This is sort of supposed to be a self portrait. Well, I've always wanted blue/black hair, so I settled on blue and my face is much more rounded now than it used to be, so I guess this is sort of a portrait of me from 20 years ago? ;)

I have to say I am Loving this class! Everything about it, but what I really love (about week 1 anyway, that is as far as I've got) is there is no extra fluff. She gets straight to the art without a ton of silliness or just extra stuff. I literally did this with her in a little under 2 hours. That is amazing to me. I have taken a couple other classes that took weeks to get this far. I'm just glad I joined! I have at least 2 other paid for classes that I haven't even started. No more classes for me for a while. :D I can't wait to start Week 2 with Willowing on Ning - The Heart of Art!

I dont know how I got so behind on my 52 List mini art journal (Atc size), but finally got caught up over the weekend. We went to Chicago over the weekend and turned into a 7 hour trip there (normally 5.5 to 6 hrs) because of the traffic in Indiana. The supplies were a bit limited in my travel kit, but I don't think I did so bad. I'm not crazy about all them, but that is okay. :)

Last night Marty played in a band called Berserker - he is a thrashing heavy metal enthusiast. I was a voodoo doll, but no one really seemed to get it. I had a huge red heart on my chest with a giant needle sticking out it of even. Oh well i loved it. :) Marty was Eddie - an Iron Maiden side kick. These are pretty gritty photos, but what I love about my new phone is it as a night setting camera which takes these sort of infrared pics.

Halloween Journal - update.

I tried my hand out at my first (and probably only) video, I thought it would be easier than trying to take pics. I did sort of like making the video so maybe I'll ask for a good camera for Christmas. I used my ancient Kodak Easy Share.

I'm sorry I don't have a list of all the makers of the papers I used, but the majority of all the papers used can be found at Michaels. Some of the things I used were ordered from Two Peas in a Bucket.

Halloween Journal

Halloween is my favorite holiday (well almost - Christmas might be number 1) and I love making a journal for the entire month of October to keep me in the Halloween spirit!

I am about 95% finished with my Halloween journal (M.A. Moss ROD style!). I still have to add a closure, some tabs for the days of the month and from there I will be filling it every day with pics and journal entries.

I made it with a mixture of pretty Halloween papers and watercolor paper, and used some transparencies, stencils and shimmer sprays. I plan to add lots of art journal cards to it, fiber bits, and whatever else October has planned for me.

I will share more as I start to fill it up!

Struggling

I have to admit that I have been in a bit of a funk now for about 3 or so months. I think I am depressed, but just don't really know. I've been depressed before and can barely get out of bed, but this is different. I just want to park my butt in front of the TV and do nothing else. My house is getting neglected, and so are my journals. The only productive thing I am still doing is going to work and actually it helps because it is forcing me to do something. It just feels like I am going through the motions of life right now.

I was watching some YouTube videos for a bit of inspiration and came across tangiebaxter who has a little 3 part tutorial on making a junque journal. I thought it was so cute and so simple that I had to give it a try, and I have to admit it has been pretty addicting. I like that I can put things in it that I would not put in my journals, but just had to have all the same. It also gives me a place to put cards and such that I don't know what to do with.

Yep, I am a year behind. This should read 2010, but I'll fix that soon. I made this pocket and added a card I made and 2 others I received in a Valentines day swap.

This is a stencil I bought at Micheal's sold in the scrap book papers.

This is my favorite! After using the stencil there was lots of ink left on it so I smooshed it in between some blank pages and love the way it turned out.

Made a side pocket. The tag was received as part of a RAK from Sherri.

And this is it for now. It is just something simple to work in while I am parked in front of the TV. A very dry, non messy journal to work in. Something somewhat creative to work in while I get through this 'blah' phase.

I love Halloween!!! I am in the process of making my 31 day Halloween journal and to get me motivated ive been working on 4 different skulls. This is my first one and I think I might add more doodles to the jaw and around the nose, but I'm happy with it for now. I have 4 that I'm working on but may buy more. Week 27 in the 52 lists group - my regrets. I have some buried under the paint, and regrets that I can't even begin to write on paper tucked away in my brain.

The front side was originally done as an ATC sized journal prompt in a Artists Journals and Sketchbooks workshop.

Week 28 Bands I've seen live. I'm sure I've been to many more, but can't remember and unfortunately I haven't kept a journal to remind me in the past! I've been to lots of Lollapalooza's and concerts with multiple bands playing.

I was so inspired by this cover of Somerset Studio I had to buy it and I haven't bought one of these in years. I don't have the copy with me now so I can't link the artist, but I will next time I see it. I just fell in love with her art and had to paint one of her birds. :)

The background was inspired by Journal Artista on youtube. If you haven't already seen her videos, you should check them out. Even if you are a seasoned journaler she is so enthusiastic she'll make you want to get out all your supplies and journal into the early hours of the night! :)

My first ROD Journal

I have to admit, I was super scared to start this journal. I joined the class with December being my deadline for picking it up and I didn't think I could do it with all the craziness that has been going on over here. Mine is not as nice as Mary Ann Moss's, but with time I'll get better. I LOVED making the cover. I think that from now one I might make these covers even for my watercolor journals.

I am already planning a Halloween and a Christmas ROD. I started buying fabrics as well as hording papers. :)

I'm not sure why I don't share more of my journal pages. I guess I feel what I write on them is sooo boring and no one would really be interested anyway. I did this recently and really like them so I thought I'd share. They are a little on the grungy side. Much prettier to look at in person. :D

The second page down there is a stamp of Fozzy Bear's face I made using speedball carving tools.

These were created in the journal I made for The Decorated Page work shop in the Yahoo group Artists Of The Round Table.

Last night Marty and Me went to Dragonsmead to meet up with an old friend for a drink. My friend Darla who I haven't seen in about 7 years or so. I missed her so much and it was sooo good to see her again. She is still exactly the same funny, sincere, beautiful girl I remember her to be.

While we were there I couldn't quit playing with the coasters. I fidget like crazy all the time. I decided to take them home with me and make a journal out of them to remember our night. :)

I haven't written in it just yet, but here is a sneak peak. I folded it up to fit the size of the coaster and used gel medium to glue it on to the front and back. I'm off to write about the night and how good it was to see an old friend.

This weeks list was My Bad Habits. I have tons. I actually have a whole page I wrote up and fit what I could on the ATC sized page. One I didn't put on was Skeptic. I don't believe anything people tell me. It might have something to do with a close friend I've had for the last 11 years who has a different story for everyone. I just can't bring myself to believe her most of the time now and I'm starting to feel that way with other people. I am working on this though and my negativity! They go hand in hand, don't they?

My scanner doesn't like to scan shiny sparkly things, the list is actually written in a sparkly purple pen.

I don't really sit and do one page at a time. I have several pages going at once in a journal and I continually work on them. The only time I really do a journal page in a day is if its prompted.

This was started with collage of a map and a piece of pretty paper, then I added a wash of yellow/green glaze, used a reverse stencil of a bird in flight with magenta and sky blue paint and then just added some random writing.

The harder you do it, the harder he purrs. This is my huge boy, Fozzy Bear being tapped by my husband Marty. This is not the best video, but it is just something we've been trying to get on camera forever. Fozzy just doesn't really like being recorded and usually runs when I get the camera out.

And yes - those are Marvel action figures on the wall in the background (in our 'guest' room). This is just a fraction of Marty's collection.

Week 15 List

Famous people I have encountered. This list made me think. The first 2 encounters listed were Adrian Zmed and Sally Struthers. I don't remember how long ago this was, but I'd guess early to mid 90's. I was downtown with a girlfriend at American Pizza cafe and the cast of Grease came in they were doing a play at the theater next door. Siouxsie Sioux was pretty cool - I was at a night club called City Club and they had a little dance place in the basement and she showed up. It was just bizzare because no one was really making too big of deal about it and she was just having a good time. The last 3 - they were at Comicon and I had no idea they were going to be there. It's just weird seeing someone on TV forever and then you see them in person.

Sometimes things just really give me the willies. The Surinam toad who's eggs get embedded on the back skin and the tadpoles mature there and then pop out leaving the frog looking like a sponge. A Wolf spider with babies on it's back. See a pattern? I know its nature, and fascinating, but it sometimes makes my hairs stand on end. Today I was filling my bird feeders and I noticed a odd looking bunch of Dandelions (yes, we have tons of weeds right now). It looked like they were all clumped together, so I took a closer look and they were conjoined. Or at least that is the best way I can describe it. It just made my skin craw, so of course I had to take pics. I know this might sound weird, but I have 2 sisters I am going to send these pics to and I know they will agree with me!

As I was filling my feeder I also noticed a bird feed brick that was put out had Meal worms molded in it along with the seed.

Many moons ago before I started making and playing in my art journals - I made cigar box purses. This was a minor obsession of mine. I actually sold a couple dozen of them, but not for too much money. :) I wish I had more photos of the ones I made, but these are the only 2 I kept. I have some more boxes around here some where and I might just have to make more. I would love to incorporate some of my pages onto them.

My 'un' page I really liked. I had taken a horrible job and used that as my outlet.

My 'silence' page - it didn't photograph too well, but I guess I really didn't like it too much anyway. I don't have to love all my pages, right? I still like to do them. It's so therapeutic for every day woes.

Look at this coptic stitch Journal that my artist friend Lotus made for me. Isn't it gorgeous???? The stampings on it are hand carved stamps and the colors are just gorgeous. Again - another journal I am afraid to 'ruin'. I will be gentle with it. ;)

Clash of the Titans

Marty and me went to see
Clash of the Titans yesterday at MJR. It was so cool. I loved the original growing and was so excited when I found out it was being re-made. It was good, but I wish they would have stuck to the original story just a tiny bit more when they did. When the preview came on we'd hurry to change the channel so we wouldn't see too much of the movie before we seen it. It seems like a lot of movies we see are ruined this way.

These are sort of in order. I still do most of these, but some died out years ago like collecting penguins. Ceramics and scrapbooking was very short lived. Scrapbooking I'm still interested in, but its an expensive hobbie! Cigar box purses I haven't made in about 5 years or so, but I'll jump back into that again. I loved making them.

I love Easter! I always have. I especially love the candy. For some reason the taste of Reese's Peanut-butter cup taste so much better to me in egg shape than in any other shape they make. One of my favorite memories of Easter was dying the eggs. We used this dye that came in bottles and had plastic bunny heads for the tops. I can't find them anymore, but if I could I'd probably buy some and just hold onto it for nostalgic purposes. I am off to my sisters for an Easter feast! Happy Easter all!!

One small piece of art finished for 52 Lists! My Fashion Trends.

In the earlier part of the 80's I wore these horribly bright colored clothes, parachute pants, and stuff with zippers, but by the mid to late 80's I started wearing black, spiky hair with food coloring in it, lots of skirts (wouldn't be caught dead in jeans), fish nets, baggy sweaters and lots of black make-up.

In the 90's that turned to what people started calling 'Goth', but I think I had a small mix of grunge in there too.

In the 00's I really just go for comfort. My money is spent on art supplies and bills. I still love black though. :)

What do I like to do on a rainy March afternoon? Make a giant journal! :)

I was inspired to make this today after watching a youtube video. I was watching this video by artandsoul2 and thought I need a giant journal - actually it was more like I HAVE TO HAVE a giant journal. :)

I used a Strathmore 18" x 24" Cold Press, Top Spiral pad I bought on sale at Micheal's ages ago. I unbound what was left on the pad, folded it in half and gave it a coptic stitch that I learned from watching jaescala on Youtube.

I don't know about you all, but I get all giddy when I have a brand new blank journal to work in so I'm going to make a giant pot of coffee and paint until the wee hours of the morning.

February Tip In - Love

My Tip in for the yahoo group Blissfully Art Journaling. The prompt was love.

This was done on cold press watercolor paper - 5.5" x 8.5". Layers of acrylics, with stencils in between, with a page from Twilight added for the heart. The black around the heart is watercolor crayon and then stamped with a flourish.

The prompt this week was list of the Pets I've had. I tried to put them in order newest to oldest, but I left a couple out and ended up putting them in at the end. I loved them all so much. :)

All pages made for this mini art journal are ATC size. 2.5 x 3.5 - or the same size as a playing card. All my cards we made from cereal boxes or the like and they are all prepainted, just needing a little design.

So this year I promised myself - no more shopping, use what you have. I have sooo much of it. I do art journals for me. It's not like I'm making a living with painting, so why do I have to have everything I 'think' I need? I just need a few basic supplies, but I can't quit shopping. I have friends who spend all their money on clothes and shoes and I'm always telling them how wasteful they are. Ha, like I'm much better.

Specialty papers for base journal pages, letter stickers and rub-ons, Golden and Basic acrylic paints, kneaded eraser, start sketching Pod, graphtint color pencils, white color and watercolor pencils, blender pen (for transfers), and finally Reeves water soluble wax pastels.

I have Caran d'Ache Neocolor II Artists' Crayons, and portfolio water color crayons, but I just had to have these. They actually seem better than the Portfolio brand.

Saturday is my favorite day of the week! I love getting up late, making coffee and hanging out with my baby and the kitties. :) Today we had planned on seeing Alice in Wonderland, but by the time we got there the movie was sold out. I couldn't believe how many people were in the theater when we got there; I have never seen it so packed. It looked like a Twilight movie premiere or something close. We went home and I watched Ponyo, a film directed by Hayao Miyazaki. I love all the movies he's made, there is always some sort of message about balance between nature and man. This one seemed a little bit more 'Disney' than some of the others I've see, but I still enjoyed it. I also got to do some background painting in my journals! So, Alice will have to wait for next weekend, but at least I still had a great night!

Fabric Paper

Here is some fabric paper I made using the technique from Stitch Alchemy: Combining Fabric & Paper for Mixed Media Art by Kelli Perkins. This was so much fun and I have lots of muslin and plan on making more. :)

However, I do not own a sewing machine, so we'll see how far I get using a needle and thread with my hands.

My final page in a traveling Moleskine journal through the yahoo group Blissfully Art Journaling; it will be ready to ship this weekend. It is open themed and will be auctioned off sometime in January 2011, the proceeds will go to Bernie Berlin's No Kill Animal Shelter A Place to Bark. I did two other pages as well.

Its sort of hard to read, but around the edges it says: I journal to record to remember to heal. I journal because it makes me feel good. I journal to understand and vent.

I am the second artist in the book. I can't wait to see what the others do!

List 8 - 52 Lists for 2010. A list of people in history I'd like to have a conversation with. This was another hard one since I am doing my work on ATC size pages. How do I fit all those people on there? I made a list and picked a few at random. :)

This is the front. The photo on the right is a packing tape transfer image of Susan B Anthony. I'm having a really hard time finding a small tip pen that will write over the Glaze paints. Sharpies and markers are perfect, but the tips are too big for this size page. This pen is a Glaze Gel Pen, but its sort of on the goopy side.

#1 is any of my relatives who have passed. I miss them all so much. Especially my Grandparents.

Traveling Journal - Open

These journal pages are in a traveling Moleskine journal through the yahoo group Blissfully Art Journaling. It is open themed and will be auctioned off sometime in January 2011, the proceeds will go to Bernie Berlin's No Kill Animal Shelter A Place to Bark. There are about 12 artists participating and each will do a page about why they art journal and then two pages about anything they fancy. These are my two pages so far. I have the background for the third one done, but my brain is a bit mushy right now so I will try to finish it tomorrow. I can't wait for the auction. I am saving up money now and plan on winning the auction, and of course being an animal lover - I can't think of a better way to spend it.

This one needs more work, but I'm not sure what I'll do with it yet.

Last Saturday the 6th Marty took me to a see The Book of Eli and then to Mr. Paul's Chop House for a 'good news' celebration. He got a nice raise and wanted to celebrate! I'm not sure I got the Book of Eli, but I did like the movie. Marty is so sweet and I had such a good time with him. That is one thing I love about him. As long as we've been together, we are still best friends. :)

I had a Margarita with an olive in it. Mmmm....!

Superbowl Sunday!

Sunday was awesome! I spent the first half of the day hanging out at my moms. When I was a little girl my mom would take us (me and my sister) to a dinner and a movie Superbowl night so my dad and his friends could have the house to himself. I've tried to keep this tradition going a little, but she's too depressed now to do much. Afterward I went to the grocery store and bought all the 'stuff' I needed to make a special Superbowl night for Marty. :) We already had a "growler" of micro-brew - Dubbel Dragon Ale from Dragonmead. I made Jalapeno poppers and Turkey chili. I'm still do not have a recipe for chili that I love, but the stuff I made turned out ok.

Movie Journal

One of Marty and my favorite thing to do is go to the Movies. We go on average once a month and only to movies we think are going to be really good. I started to keep a movie journal. I don't have all my pages loaded (because some of them are just horrible) but I do have a journal page for almost 1/2 of them. I didn't think to start keeping a journal until we had seen about 20. I have the ones I didn't do a page for listed in the inside cover. Here is my most current for the movie Avatar. I loved this movie, but it was so sad. The message of this movie is so clear, but man will never change.

I made this journal back in October with different papers, embroidery floss, deco and duct tape, card board and canvas board. I originally made it for a workshop for the book Artist Journals and Sketchbooks Workshop, but I didn't keep up with it. They lost me when they started doing transfers. I can do gel medium transfers all day, but these were supposed to be done with ink-jet copies (I don't have an ink-jet printer), transparencies and different chemicals, so I sort of lost interest. However, I might go back one day and pick up after the transfers.

Last weekend I painted the background and last night I finally put the brain and the letters on. I might add more to it as I go (my journals are never done until the last page is finished), but for now it's good. So I've decided that I'll be using this journal for my A Year in the Life of an Art Journal pages. This group has 2 prompts a month. I think its the 15th and the 30th of each month.

Last night Marty and me were watching the second season of Battlestar Galactica. I've see the first 3 seasons and a couple from season 4, but Marty hasn't seen many at all. He is really enjoying them though, as I knew he would! We both love Sci-Fi! Snowcone was pretty content in her bean bag until we started talking to Puddin Pop and the next thing you know she's up on the couch next to Marty as cute as she can be. I love my little Kitty Boo. :)

I joined a group called A Year in the Life of an Art Journal. They are on Flickr and also on Ning. The first prompt was to write about what is holding you back. I pretty much followed the moderators instruction on how she did hers. I might still play with it though - I'm not sure I'm 100% crazy about the word 'nothing'.

I did this using cheap paints, glazes, masking tape, sharpie and watercolor crayons.

I made this for a Valentine Swap in the yahoo group Soul Journaling. I started with a piece of water color paper and added different shades of pink glazes, stamps, and then more glazes. Added some heart stenciling, some of my favorite little blue kitties (drawn with inktense watercolor pencils), glitter, a button, a piece of text paper and lace.

I also made some ATC's because I had so much of the background paper left over. I picked names randomly from another yahoo group and sent them out.

I've been meaning to post this for a while, but after Christmas instead of things winding down, they seemed to spiral out of control for a while. Now that everything is starting to settle down I had some time to take some pictures of my wonderful homemade gift from Jinxie. It's funny that she sent me this, because I don't really think she knew what a signification meaning this would have for me. In another words, I don't think she knew I was into this kind of thing. Me and Marty both love zombie movies (he even has the occasional nightmare about them) and we both love this journal! Even though it's mine. :)

This was cool, but I had a hard time finger painting. Wanting everything to look perfect. We had to cover our pages with text, and write how we feel for 5 minutes, and then paint our portrate with our fingers, and cover the whole page!

This took me a while to get, but I loved it! My fiance thought it was so cool. You make a bunch of scribbles and then find a character in the mess. I made some others in another journal I have too.
